Renga Lily
Arthropodium cirratum
Native only to New Zealand, Renga Lily is an evergreen perennial plant also known as rengarenga and New Zealand Rock Lily. Renga Lily has a rich history in Maori culture, where it has been traditionally cultivated used as a source of food and fiber.
Plants are very attractive and grow between one and two feet tall and slowly form arching clumps that make an attractive groundcover or border. In late spring tall flower stalks emerge with elegant clusters of white, orchid-like flowers.
Renga Lily prefers a well-draining soil but is highly adaptable, tolerating a range of soil types, including sandy, loamy, and clay soils. This species is shade and drought tolerant, but thrives with regular watering. Renga Lily also tolerates coastal salt spray incredibly well.
Cold hardy to USDA zone 8b or to 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
