Scrambling Fuchsia
Fuchsia perscandens
Scrambling Fuchsia is one of three Fuchsia species native to New Zealand, separated by all other Fuchsia that are found in the Americas. This plant garners its namesake from its clambering and climbing habit where it will either cascade when grown alone or weave itself up an adjacent shrub as a liana. In our opinion, it’s not too different from most Fuchsia in habit, but it must be unique in New Zealand.
Scrambling Fuchsia flowers are lovely but the real showstopper is the purple/ bronze foliage plants acquire with adequate sun. Plants grow up to approximately four feet high and wide in the garden and are adaptable to a range of soil types and sun exposure. We’ve found it to be a perfectly hardy Fuchsia species in the Pacific Northwest.
Cold hardy to USDA zone 8a or to 10 degrees Fahrenheit
