Lycium barbarum ‘Crimson Star’

Goji Berry, also known as wolfberry or matrimony vine, is an edible nightshade species native to Eastern Asia. Goji Berries have been cultivated for centuries in China, Japan, and Korea for their edible and nutritious fruit that are eaten fresh or dried. The fruit have a sweet and savory flavor somewhat like raisin, cherry, and tomato. The selection ‘Crimson Star’ is a commercial variety grown in Northern China that has good yields of high-quality fruit.

Goji Berry is a deciduous, suckering shrub that is extremely drought tolerant and cold-hardy when established. Typically growing to six feet high and wide, plants have an upright, arching habit, with narrow gray-green leaves and small, tubular purple flowers. Being native to harsh, dry climates, Goji Berry prefers full sun and good drainage in the garden. This species is resilient and adaptable, tolerating both high summer heat and frigid winter cold.

Cold hardy to USDA zones 5b and above, or to -15 degrees Fahrenheit.
