Magnolia Vine

from $3.00
Almost Gone!

Schisandra chinensis

Magnolia Vine, also called Five-Flavor Berry, is a deciduous woody vine native to Eastern Asia, particularly China and Russia. Magnolia Vine has a rich history of traditional medicinal use in China, where it has been valued for centuries for its various health benefits. In addition to its medicinal properties, Magnolia Vine is also known for its clusters of small, red berries which have a unique flavor profile and are popular in traditional Chinese cuisine. The berries are prized for their unique taste, which is simultaneously sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and pungent.

Magnolia Vine is a climbing, twining vine that can reach up to twenty feet wide. The vine produces lush, dark green, lanceolate leaves that can create an impressive screen. In addition to being useful, the hanging bunches of scarlet fruit are attractive and long-lasting, providing good garden interest in the autumn. Magnolia Vine grows best in areas with full or partial sun exposure and average moisture. This plant is hardy and adaptable, capable of tolerating a range of climates, including cold winters. There are male and female plants and both are usually required for fruit production, although the variety we offer as live plants are a self-fruitful selection. Seeds will produce a mixture of male and female plants.

Cold hardy to USDA Zone 3b or to -35 degrees Fahrenheit.
