'Pakistan' Mulberry

$33.00

Morus macroura

The Himalayan Mulberry is a deciduous tree native to the foothills of the Himalayas, including regions of Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, and southwestern China. The selection 'Pakistan' is particularly notable for its long, slender, sweet fruit, which can reach up to 4 inches in length, far surpassing the size of most other mulberries. The tree has long been valued for its delicious fruit and the leaves have a regional history in silkworm cultivation for the production of silk.

'Pakistan' Mulberry is a small tree, growing up to forty feet in height with a spreading crown and its leaves are large, heart-shaped, and glossy green. Trees prefer full sun, good drainage, and regular moisture, but are otherwise easy to grow. Fruit typically ripens between late spring and early summer and is firm and non-staining, unlike many mulberries which can be difficult to pick without crushing. 'Pakistan' Mulberries have a fresh, sweet flavor with characteristic mulberry, honey, and melon notes and are great fresh, dried, or prepared in preserves or desserts.

Cold hardy to USDA Zone 7b and above, or to 5 degrees Fahrenheit.
