Desert peach is a deciduous shrub native to the arid regions of eastern California and western Nevada. Here is can be found growing in dry, rocky slopes along with sagebrush, pinyon pine, and juniper at elevations between 3,000 and 8,000 feet. Because of the harsh environment of the region, Desert Peach is adapted to prolonged drought, poor soils, and cold winters. In early spring before the leaves appear, plants produce showy pink flowers that are followed by small, fuzzy fruit that are similar to an apricot or small peach. These fruit are edible, but haven’t yet been cultivated much outside their native range.
Desert Peach is a thicket-forming plant that will has a dense growth habit and will reach six feet high with time. Plants are tough and resilient, tolerating high heat, drought, salinity, and poor soils. We recommend giving plants full sun, regular water, and well-draining soil. Plants are great for erosion control and perform well on slopes.
Cold hardy to USDA Zone 5a or to -20 degrees Fahrenheit
For sale are packets of 4 seeds
