Chaenomeles x superba ‘Pink Lady’

Flowering Quince is a deciduous shrub that’s been cultivated since antiquity for its vibrant early spring blooms. Native to China and Japan, this hardy plant bursts into color before many other plants leaf out, with flowers often appearing on bare branches. Once in leaf, Flowering Quince has attractive, glossy foliage and an upright habit that make it a wonderful garden shrub. ‘Pink Lady’ is a hot pink, single-flowering variety of Flowering Quince with showy yellow pollen.

Flowering Quince typically grows between six and ten feet high and wide with a dense habit. Plants are easy to trim, or even shear, making them a great candidate for a hedge. If you happen to have another variety of Flowering Quince nearby, plants will produce small, hard, yellow fruits that are edible when cooked and make fragrant preserves and jellies. The plant is drought-tolerant once established and thrives in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil. Forget planting a rose bush, plant a Flowering Quince instead.

Cold hardy to USDA zone 5a or to -20 degrees Fahrenheit.
