Honey Bush

$25.00

Melianthus major

Honey Bush, also known as honeybush, giant honey flower, or peanut butter bush, is a dramatic evergreen shrub native to South Africa. Honey Bush is a popular ornamental plant due to its showy, pinnate, serrated, gray-green foliage. Curiously, the foliage has a strong, sweet odor that many often likened to peanut butter. Despite the delicious smell, all parts of the plant are toxic. In early summer, plants produce maroon flower spikes that contrast beautifully with the foliage and are hit with hummingbirds.

Honey Bush prefers full sun, is drought tolerant when established, and is adaptable to different soil types. Plants grow to six feet high and wide with time. and we recommend occasional pruning to keep them looking dense and full. Honey Bush is a bold addition to the garden and is sure to quickly become the center of attention.

Cold hardy to USDA zone 7b or to 5 degrees Fahrenheit.
