Japanese Iris, also known as Fringed Iris and Butterfly Flower, is an evergreen iris species native to China and Japan. Unlike bearded iris, Japanese Iris has the curious habit of blooming on stalks, with sprays of frilly, white or pale lavender flowers held high above the foliage. The selection ‘Aphrodite’ has showy, white variegation in the foliage which gives this groundcover year-round interest.
Japanese Iris is a relatively short iris, reaching two feet high. Plants are clumping and will slowly spread to form a small colony. We recommend giving Japanese Iris part shade, well-draining soil, and regular water. If you live in a temperate climate, this is a wonderful choice for a tropical-style garden.
