Lemon-scented Myrtle is a compact, evergreen shrub endemic to Western Australia. As you might infer from its common name, this unique member of the Myrtle family has aromatic foliage with a characteristic lemon fragrance. Beyond its pleasant odor, Lemon-scented Myrtle is a highly ornamental plant with fine, grey-green foliage in a symmetrical Hebe-like arrangement and unique, tubular flowers that form just at the tips of branches. Blooms take on hues of orange, red, and pink and have a long stamens that give the flower an exotic appearance.
Plants typically grow to two or three feet high and wide and have a rounded habit. Lemon-scented Myrtle is well-adapted to poor soils, but appreciates good drainage as well as part sun and regular moisture. This species performs well in containers and makes a great addition to container gardens where it can add some flair and tropicality.
