Psidium sartorianum

syn. Calyptropsidium sartorianum

Sartre Guava is a tropical evergreen tree native to Central America, Mexico, and parts of the Caribbean. Also known locally as Little Guava, it is cultivated for its edible fruit but rarely grown outside of its native range. The fruits are smaller than those of the common guava (Psidium guajava) and are tangy and aromatic, often used in beverages and preserves. In addition to its edible value, plants are highly ornamental with smooth, mottled bark and glossy green leaves.

Trees can eventually grow to thirty feet high, but are often much smaller in garden settings. Sartre Guava prefers full sun or partial shade and thrives in warm or hot climates. Plants are adaptable to different soil types and are drought tolerant when established. This could make an interesting container plant for folks living in cold winter climates.

Cold hardy to USDA Zone 9b or 25 degrees Fahrenheit.
