LSU Purple Fig
Ficus carica ‘LSU Purple’
An introduction from the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station that has the unique tendency to bear three crops of figs per season. LSU Purple has a light breba crop, a heavy main crop, and a light third crop in late Fall. Fruit is medium sized, dark skinned, and very sweet. Having a moderately closed eye, LSU Purple resists spoiling on the tree. Fully parthenocarpic, common fig; no pollination by wasp needed.
This fig variety can reach twenty or more feet in height with age, but can easily pruned to manage size. Fig trees are very drought tolerant when established and prefer full sun, good drainage, and regular feeding with a balanced fertilizer.
Cold hardy to USDA zone 7b and above, or to 5 degrees Fahrenheit.
For sale are live plants in 1 gallon pots.
