Madeiran Blueberry

from $5.00

Vaccinium padifolium

The Madeiran Blueberry is a rare and uncultivated blueberry species native to the islands of Madeira in the North Atlantic Ocean. While not widely grown outside of Macaronesia, Madeiran Blueberry is an easy to grow blueberry species that has great potential as a fruit bush for the home garden or for commercial agriculture, with some selection or breeding. Plants fruit heavily at a small size with medium sized, tangy fruit. While plants are surprisingly drought tolerant, we do not know for sure how cold hardy they are.

Madeiran Blueberry bushes are somewhat slow growing, reaching up to six feet high and wide. Plants are evergreen and adaptable, but benefit from good sun, regular watering during the summer months, and occasional feeding with a balanced fertilizer.

Cold hardy to USDA zone 8a or to 10 degrees Fahrenheit (or lower)

We currently have dried seed harvested from our plants in 2024 available in packs of 20 seeds.
