Nannyberry

$3.00

Viburnum lentago

Native to Northeastern North America, Nannyberry is a large deciduous shrub that is unusual among Viburnum in that it has edible, and delicious, fruit. The flavor of the fruit is somewhat like prunes, raisins, or figs and the berries are great for jams, jellies, and syrups. A forager’s delight in its native range, Nannyberry is easy to grow in the home garden and also makes for an attractive ornamental. Large sprays of creamy white flowers look a lot like Baby’s Breath and lead to blue-black berries that hang on the tree into the autumn, contrasting against deep maroon fall foliage.

Nannyberry typically grows to about fifteen feet high and wide and is widely adaptable from full sun to moderate shade. If you’re growing these for fruit, we recommend planting more than one plant and giving them some sun. Keep them well-watered, as Nannyberry isn’t particularly drought tolerant.

Cold hardy to USDA zone 3 or to -40 degrees Fahrenheit

For sale are packets of 10 seeds
