Palm Ivory Pearl Bracelet
We’re excited to offer this little-known and traditional crafting product native to the tropical regions of South America. Palm ivory, also known as vegetable ivory or Tagua, is a unique and sustainable alternative to ivory that is cherished for its incredible luster, durability, and natural aesthetic. Originating from Ecuador, palm ivory has been used in handmade crafts for hundreds of years for jewelry, buttons, guitar picks, woodworking inlays, traditional carvings and ornaments, and much more.
Palm ivory is a sustainable product that it is collected from the wild and in small scale local cultivation in its native habitat. The material comes from the Tagua nut, the cured seed from the Tagua Palm, which is multiple species in the Phytelephas genus. The seeds are collected in a way that does not harm the plants, maintaining the regional ecosystem, and the crafts that we’re offering are handcrafted by local artisans in Ecuador. We believe these distinctive products highlight the incredible habitat and culture of Ecuador and are proud to offer products which directly support their local economies.
If you’re looking for a truly unique gift for your loved ones, consider an artisanal and exotic palm ivory carving or ornament. If you’re the crafty type, pick up one of our raw Tagua nuts or pre-sliced and polished Tagua nut sections and see what you inspires you! Our hand-carved pearl bracelets give the general appearance of true pearls, but with the ivory color and matte luster that’s unique to palm ivory. The individual pearls measure 3/8 inches in diameter and the bracelet measures 6.7 inches in circumference or the equivalent of a women’s ‘medium’ size.
