The Giant Himalayan Lily is a striking deciduous perennial native to the foothills of the Himalayas and parts of China and Myanmar. It is one of the largest lilies in the world, producing stately flower stalks up to eight feet high. Each flower stalk is adorned with twenty or so blossoms that are white with a purple throat and are delightfully fragrant. When the flowers fade they are replaced by seed pods that eventually pop open and hold onto the dried stalk for many months. We like to cut and keep the old flower stalks for floral displays.
When not in bloom, Giant Himalayan Lily has glossy, dark green leaves that are showy in their own right. This species is bulb-forming and which rests during the winter months. After flowering plants will typically make offsets, eventually forming clumps. This species prefers a cool site in the garden, sheltered from hot sun and appreciates moist, well-drained soils.
Cold hardy to zone 6a and above, or to 0 degrees.
For sale are packets of 10 seeds
