Queen of Lemon

from $4.00

Backhousia citriodora

Long hailed as the strongest, purest, and sweetest lemon flavor of any herb, Queen of Lemon or Lemon Myrtle is an Australian native plant that is quickly gaining popularity worldwide. Used in teas, confections, soaps, and much more, this is an invaluable herb throughout the home. We love to use it to make lemon-flavored dairy recipes like yogurt. While it’s relatively easy to find this dried herb through specialty spice companies, it’s almost impossible to find live plants in North America. Growing to a large shrub, Lemon Myrtle is easy to keep as a patio plant and is frost and drought tolerant.

Belonging to the Myrtaceae family, alongside familiar plants like guava and myrtle, Queen of Lemon is an evergreen woody perennial. Like other plants in the myrtle family, in summer Queen of Lemon is smothered in a profusion of sweetly scented, fluffy white blossoms that are a favorite for pollinators. We have a very limited number of plants this season, as they are a bugger to propagate.

Cold hardy to USDA zone 9b and above, or to 25 degrees Fahrenheit.

For sale are 1 gallon potted plants.
