Raisin Tree

from $5.00

Hovenia acerba

The Raisin Tree is a rare and unique fruit tree native to China and Japan, where the jury is still out if there is one or two distinct species. We’re offering seeds of the trees native to China, which have the same unique, raisin and molasses flavor of their Japanese cousins. Growing to upwards of 40 feet in height if left unpruned, the Raisin Tree is a slow growing, deciduous tree that is incredibly cold hardy.

Perhaps the most unique element to this otherwise ornate tree is that the edible fruit is technically a swollen branch and not a true fruit. But as they say, would a rose by any other name not smell as sweet? Truly a must-have plant for collectors and those in continental climates with cold winters.

Hardy to USDA zone 5a and above, or to -20 degrees Fahrenheit.

Seed packages include 10 dried seeds.
