Rasp Fern

$14.00

Doodia media syn. Blechnum medium

Rasp Fern, sometimes known as Hacksaw Fern, is a charming, small evergreen fern native to the moist forests of New Zealand and Southeastern Australia. This lovely fern is notable for its flamboyant new growth with fronds emerging hot pink and slowly fading to red before settling into a dark green as the leaf matures. Rasp fern makes an attractive planting in a woodland or shaded rock garden where it’s color can light up the space. They make incredible additions to containers!

Rasp Ferns are semi-evergreen, clumping plants that will gently spread with time, reaching a foot or so high and three feet wide. They perform best in part shade and where they’ll get regular moisture, although they will tolerate brief dry spells once established. Fronds are hardy to about 22 degrees, while the whole plant will tolerate much lower temperatures, happily regrowing early in spring.

Cold hardy to USDA Zone 8a or to 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
