'Sarah Lyman' California Polypody

$30.00

Polypodium californicum ‘Sarah Lyman’

This interesting, filigreed selection of the California Polypody was a chance encounter of a wild population in Napa County, California discovered in 1897 by Sarah Lyman and her son Jack. Compared to the standard for this species, ‘Sarah Lyman’ California Polypody has finely divided foliage that seems to be a little wider and more upright. We find that it makes a graceful and adaptable groundcover food woodland plantings, borders, or shade gardens.

Plants will reach about one foot in height and are slow-growing, but will eventually form colonies. We recommend avoiding full sun and especially hot exposures. Will tolerate quite heavy shade. Like many Polypodium species, this plant tends to be summer deciduous unless well-watered.

Cold hardy to USDA zone 8a or to 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

For sale are one gallon plants
