Leopard Plant, sometimes known as Tractor Seat Plant, is a shade-loving evergreen perennial native to the woodlands and stream banks of Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Plants have round, glossy, dark green leaves that are held up like an umbrella on a single stem. The variety aureomaculatum, or ‘Aureomaculatum’, is a variegated form that features yellow spots on dark green leaves. If the foliage isn’t enough, showy sprays of yellow, daisy-like flowers appear in late autumn when few other plants are blooming.
Growing up to three feet high and wide, Variegated Leopard Plant prefers full or part shade and consistent moisture. While plants prefer a moist site, they can tolerate short dry spells. Plants are evergreen down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit, but the roots are cold hardy to much lower temperatures.
Cold hardy to USDA zone 8b or to degrees Fahrenheit.
