Yerba Buena

$15.00

Clinopodium douglasii
Syn. Satureja douglasii

Yerba Buena, also known as Oregon Tea, is a low-growing, evergreen herb native to the Pacific Northwest of North America. Found predominantly along the coast of the Pacific Ocean and its waterways, Yerba Buena is a creeping groundcover in the mint family that is grown for its aromatic foliage that can be used culinarily much the same way as common mint (Mentha). The flavor of Yerba Buena is similar to spearmint, but milder and with a note of sweetness and a touch of wintergreen. However, unlike mint this species is not aggressive in the garden and does not form rhizomes.

Growing as a groundcover, Yerba Buena forms trailers stems that gently root as they spread, creating a mat of soft foliage up to four inches high and two feet wide. Plants prefer a part sun or shade, appreciate regular moisture, and are not particular to soil types. Yerba Buena makes a lovely addition to planters or pots where it can have a graceful, draping effect over the edge of containers.

Cold hardy to zone 5a and above, or to -20 degrees Fahrenheit.

For sale are one quart potted plants
