Lardizabala biternata

Lardizabala, or Zabala Fruit, is an evergreen, fruit-bearing liana (a woody vine that uses trees for support) and is native to central and southern Chile.

Its look is distinct, with dramatic maroon/brown flowers and sausage-shaped fruit. The fruit is highly sought-after and said to be sweet and pulpy. The plants may not be self-fertile so two plants might required for the plant to fruit, similar to its cousins the Akebia vines. Our plants are all seed grown, so we’d recommend buying two plants if you want fruit.

Cold hardy to USDA zone 8 and above, or to 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
