Brazilian Tree Fern
Blechnum brasiliense
The Brazilian Tree Fern is an elegant, upright fern species native to the subtropical forests of South America. This so-called “tree fern” slowly develops a trunk which grows to reach up to four feet in height. Its short stature, along with its compact canopy of fronds, makes this fern a wonderful accent in the garden, on the patio, or indoors as a dramatic houseplant.
New foliage emerges in rich shades of red and pink and matures into dark green, glossy, crinkled fronds. Brazilian Tree Fern has an upward pointing rosette of fronds that sit atop a dark, stiped trunk. Plants are moderately low-maintenance and appreciate part shade and consistent moisture. Plants will tolerate mild frosts, but if you live in a cold-winter climate we recommend keeping this one in a container.
Cold hardy to USDA zone 9a, or to approximately 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
