Tasmanian Mountain Pepper

from $22.00

Tasmannia lanceolata

The Tasmanian Mountain Pepper, or Tasmanian Pepperberry, is a shrub native to the cool temperate woodlands of southeastern Australia and Tasmania. Growing up to 8 feet high and wide, the aromatic leaves and fruits of this plant are cherished as a bushfood spice, used as a replacement for black pepper.

In addition to its edible qualities, the Tasmanian Mountain Pepper is hailed as an ornamental plant having narrow, lanceolate leaves and fire engine red stems and bark. Plants prefer part sun, good drainage, and regular moisture. Tasmanian Mountain Pepper is not particularly drought tolerant.

Cold hardy to zone 7b and above, or to 5 degrees Fahrenheit.
