Creek Lilly Pilly

$30.00

Syzygium australe ‘Straight & Narrow’

A plant by many names, Creek Lilly Pilly is also often called brush cherry, scrub cherry, creek satinash, or watergum. Native to Eastern Australia, Creek Lilly Pilly is an evergreen shrub or small tree that has become a popular landscape plant for its attractive foliage, edible fruit, and low-maintenance cultivation. Plants have a dense habit with vibrant bronze new growth that matures to a glossy, dark green. In early summer, Creek Lilly Pilly produces clusters of fluffy white flowers that are followed by reddish berries that have a sweet and mild flavor and an airy texture. The fruit is edible raw and can also be used prepared in jams, preserves, and confections.

In garden settings this species can grow to twenty five feet high with time, although the selection ‘Straight & Narrow’ is an unusually narrow selection that seldom grows wider than five feet in width. This compact, fastigiate nature makes ‘Straight & Narrow’ a great choice for smaller, urban gardens or for privacy hedges. Plants tolerate pruning and shearing very well. Creek Lilly Pilly prefers full or part sun, well-draining soil, and regular moisture.

Cold hardy to zone 9a or to 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

For sale are one gallon potted plants
