Sequoiadendron giganteum

Native to the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, the mighty Giant Sequoia is one of the most impressive and iconic tree species on the planet. Naturally growing in the wild at elevations above 4,600 feet, Giant Sequoia trees thrive in a unique climate that features warm, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. Among the largest tree species on earth in terms of height and volume, it’s not unusual to see trees exceed 300 feet in height and 23 feet in diameter. Giant Sequoia’s are also known to be extraordinarily long-lived, with many surviving trees estimated to be several thousands of years old.

Despite their relatively small native range, Giant Sequoia trees are not difficult to grow in cultivation. They prefer well-draining soil, full sun, regular moisture and adequate nutrition.

Cold hardy to USDA Zone 6a or to -10 degrees Fahrenheit.
