Toothbrush Grevillea

$40.00

Grevillea × gaudichaudii

Toothbrush Grevillea is a naturally occurring, vigorous hybrid between Grevillea acanthifolia ssp. acanthifolia and Grevillea laurifolia, both of which are evergreen shrubs native to the Blue Mountains of Southeastern Australia. This striking Grevillea has unique flowers that bloom on the ends of branches, with a short head of uniform red bristles that looks somewhat like the head of a toothbrush. If that wasn’t cool enough, this hybrid species has interesting lobed foliage, somewhat like the leaf of an oak tree, that often has a bronze hue. This Grevillea has a ground-covering habit and rarely grows more than a foot high. As a winter-blooming plant, it is a great nectar plant for hummingbirds and other pollinators.

Plants grow to just one foot high and up about five feet wide. Toothbrush Grevillea is drought tolerant once established, and performs well in poor soils so long as they are well-draining. Unlike many Grevillea, Toothbrush Grevillea tolerates cool, wet winters and moderate frosts. We recommend full sun, low water, and no fertilizer with phosphorous.

Cold hardy to USDA Zone 8a or to 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
