Bletilla striata ‘Variegata’

Bletilla striata, commonly known as Chinese Ground Orchid or hyacinth orchid, is a species of terrestrial orchid native to China, Japan, Korea, and Myanmar. We’re excited to be able to offer a rare white-blooming, and variegated form of this striking species. Ground Orchid is a little smaller than more common orchid species, but the flowers are just as lovely, standing above the foliage on tall, slender stems. When not in bloom, Ground Orchid makes an attractive ground cover with pleated, variegated foliage that brightens up a shady garden border.

Native to forest edges and grassy slopes, these plants prefer partial shade, well-drained soil, and regular moisture. Ground Orchid plants are incredibly cold-hardy and are a deciduous species that go dormant in regions with colder winter months. Plants grow to reach up to two feet high and wide.

Cold hardy to zone 6a, or to -10 degrees Fahrenheit.
