Horopito

$10.00

Pseudowintera colorata

Also known as Pepperwood, Horopito is a unique evergreen shrub endemic to New Zealand. Horopito is a close relative to Tasmanian Mountain Pepper and Winter’s Bark and has similar culinary uses. The leaves are used as a spice and have a hot, peppery flavor reminiscent of galangal (Thai ginger) or black pepper. This traditional herb is quickly gaining popularity in modern New Zealand cuisine and can be found in everything from savory glazes to ice creams.

In addition to its value in the kitchen, Horopito is a very attractive plant that provides unusual mottled green-purple-silver foliage in the landscape. We’ve never seen a color that looks quite like it! Plants slowly grow to up to six feet high and wide and appreciate full to part sun and regular moisture.

Cold hardy to USDA zone 8a or to 10 degrees Fahrenheit

For sale are packets of 10 seeds
