Ficus carica x pumila ‘Ruth Bancroft’

This interesting hybrid is half tree and half vine! So what does that mean? Well, this cross is between the common fig, Ficus carica, which produces the delicious fruit we’ve all come to love and Ficus pumila, a vining fig species that also produces a large, ornamental fruit. The resulting hybrid looks to be pretty intermediate between it’s two parents.

Quick growing, this unique plant forms a scrambling bush that makes a unique specimen in the landscape. This hybrid fig will not climb like it’s vining parent, so it’s safe to plant next to a building. We’ve found that they look pretty cool on top of rockeries or retaining walls, where you may get them to clamber and drape. You may even get edible fruit, which is a bonus!

Cold hardy to USDA zone 7b or to 5 degrees Fahrenheit.

For sale are live plants in 1 gallon pots.
