Aspidistra elatior ‘Asahi’

A choice variegated selection of the common Cast Iron Plant. ‘Asahi’ translates to ‘Morning Sun’ in Japanese, which is a great name for this variety that boasts fading, frosty white leaf tips that brighten up garden. Cast Iron Plants are tough and dependable, thriving in dry shade and withstanding cold winter temperatures. Plants are evergreen and rhizomatous, eventually clumping to form an wonderful groundcover.

Cast Iron Plants prefer part shade or filtered light, well-draining soils, and regular moisture. The variety ‘Asahi’ does not like being grown in a container and will look its best planted in ground. Similarly, fertilizer high in nitrogen will suppress the variegation. Expect plants to reach 18” high and two feet wide.

Plants are hardy to USDA zone 7b and above, or to 5 degrees Fahrenheit.
