Sacred Datura
Datura wrightii
Sacred Datura, also known as Sacred Thorn-apple, Hairy Thornapple, or Western Jimson Weed, is an herbaceous perennial plant native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It’s cultivated for its large, trumpet-shaped flowers and attractive broad foliage. Sacred Datura’s striking white flowers can be up to eight inches long and emit a sweet fragrance at night.
Plants grow to reach six feet high and wide and tolerate hot temperatures and moderate drought. Our seed was wild-collected in Utah from tall, upright plants with stout stems, appearing much like a Brugmansia species in stature. Plants may senesce and die down to the ground in cold winters.
Cold hardy to USDA Zone 6a or to -10 degrees Fahrenheit.
