Evergreen Dogwood
Cornus hongkongensis
The Evergreen Dogwood, also known as the Hong Kong Dogwood, is one of the few evergreen species of Dogwood. Slowly growing up to thirty feet high, this small tree has showy yellow-white flowers that last throughout the summer months. Trees tolerate full sun with regular moisture, but perform better with part shade. Evergreen Dogwood will hold onto its leaves all winter long if temperatures don’t dip below about fifteen degrees.
Similar to its common cousin, the Kousa Dogwood, Evergreen Dogwood produces a showy, edible fruit that ripens in the Fall. The one inch, golfball-shaped fruit are an orange color and are popular with birds and other wildlife. The fruit is sweet and is a popular snack in its native range in China, Laos, and Vietnam.
Cold hardy to USDA Zone 7b or to 5 degrees Fahrenheit.
