Guadalupe Palm
Brahea edulis
The Guadalupe Palm is a unique and endangered palm tree endemic to Guadalupe Island off the coast of Baja California, Mexico. Because this palm cannot be found in the wild anywhere else in the world, it’s important that we grow them at home! Oversized, bold fronds really give the Guadalupe Palm a tropical appearance while its compact habit keeps it at a manageable height. Trees slowly grow to 15 feet high (or more in warm climates) and old leaf bases shed to leave behind an attractive smooth trunk.
The Guadalupe Palm produce an edible fruit about the size of a ping pong ball that has a sweet, molasses-like flavor, similar to dates. Plants are cold and drought tolerant, easy to care for, and appreciate full sun and good drainage.
Cold hardy to USDA zones 8b and above or to 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
