Pineapple Lily

$25.00

Eucomis comosa ‘African Night’

The Pineapple Lily, or Pineapple Flower, is a deciduous perennial bulb native to the temperate regions of South Africa. Coming in a variety of foliage colors, the Pineapple Lily is a tropical looking cousin to the common Hyacinth. The long lasting white to purple flowers appear in summer and are arranged in a spike, topped by a "head" of green leaflike bracts, looking much like some sort of miniature pineapple.

This plant offers a tropical flair in the garden and makes a great herbaceous, broad-leaf ornamental for the seasonal garden. While surprisingly cold hardy, this plant is winter deciduous, resting as a bulb which can be dug up and stored in cold winter climates, much like Dahlias or other annuals. In most regions without hard frosts, simply dress the planting area with mulch and they’ll be one of the first plants to return in spring.

Cold hardy to zone 6b and above, or to -5 degrees.
